(e-book extract)
Translation companies are the linking point between clients and translation teams. End clients contact a single translation company rather than several freelance translators for a number of different reasons. On the one hand, they do not have to assume the responsibility of recruiting and testing suitable candidates for translating a given subject matter, to and from certain languages. On the other, they can rely on a translation company to take charge of all the tasks related to the translation.
In fact, aside from their employees, most translation companies have access to a large number of contacts that are saved in databases. These will normally have been previously tested and deemed capable of carrying out specific tasks in order to meet any type of order from a variety of clients. The databases might not be limited exclusively to translators, but also reference teams or professionals experienced in carrying out technical tasks, such as DTP (Desktop Publishing) work performed with specially designed software.
